i just did a top end rebuild kit on my sp, just install the kit but now im thinking if i installd the cylinder bottom gasket right do the letters on the gasket go facing up or down or does it even mater. thanks

I thought I was being careful rebuilding my entire engine, now you come along with a question I thought about asking, but decided not to.

Because it appeared that the letters were face down based upon the impressions left on the crankcase from the old gasket, I just did the same. That said, I did wonder whether that was correct considering the fact that a mechanic that did some engine work for me a few years ago did a inferior job.

Now I have to wait to lock down the jugs to the case until you get an answer. I'm at summer camp, so, I have the time to wait.

On a side note, if you have a 92-94 GTX, I would appreciate it if you would measure one of the four bolts that secure the cylinder to the crankcase. (they are located in each corner of your cylinder)

Because I can't find four of them, I bought 4, however, they are 1/4" smaller (2.75") than the bolts on the other jug (3"), so, I was wondering if I have the correct length?

Thanks,

Thanks for the info.

There is always some mickey mouse problem I encounter, something as simple as the size of a bolt or which way to lay the gasket down.

When I read your thread I went outside to look at my engine (I am at summer camp with a lot of free time on my hands) and I noticed the writing from the gasket was facing the jugs.

Moreover, the PTO jug had some small holes where the gasket masks and I noticed that there was were several small holes on the gasket.

Based upon that finding, I am presuming that the markings face the jugs.

I looked in both my Sea Doo and Clymer's manuals and neither addressed the issue.

Because the gasket material is the same on both sides, it would appear to me that it does not matter which way the gasket faces, however, check your jugs for small holes on the mating surface as pointed out above and if you have small holes on the gasket, match it.

I hope this helps. Thanks for the help on the bolts.

Pull up two threads I posted recently on this subject. You may find them helpful.

On an advanced search, type my name Surfbeat and when you find my postings look for the headings: 1) 587cc Crankcase (top); and 2) cylinder installation.
