Throttle Position

I recently purchased a 99 Sportster 1800 and have had the boat out a few times. I seems to run well, but I have a couple of questions. First off, when should engine rpm's increase based on throttle movement? It seems on my boat that the throttles are about halfway before rpm's start to increase. Is this a case of stretched cables needing adjustment, or just how much play is in the throttle system? The port engine also seems to top out at about 6500 rpm. Second question is concerning jetting on the carbs. The boat originally came from Alabama (low altitude), and I live in Colorado (high altitude). I know the jets should be changed to keep it from running rich, but does anyone know of a good source to determine what jet size I should use? The local dealer is not very forthcoming on sizes as they want to do the work, but I am very capable of doing the work myself and do not want to pay their prices for labor.

well i dont know all that much about the jet sizes and such, but i did have a simalar problem with my 98. The main issue was cleaning out the internal fuel filter that is seated next to the fuel intake on the carb. Hope that gives you a quick and cheap fix
