The classic tale?!

Hi all I guess my story is pretty typical.
I have never owned any skis before BTW.
We recently bought 2 skis and a trailer at what seemed a pretty reasonable price. The guy started the skis up for us and even let us lake test them the next day.He said his mechanic buddy had gone through the skis and made sure they were good to go.The guy and his wife said they were selling the skis because they were adopting a baby from another country-they seemed so sincere. The other problem is that we got the idea about the skis LAST minute, like the day before our twins birthday. The guy even delivered the skis for us in dramatic fashion shocking our boys.
so far so good.I figured the skis needed to be gone over by a pro so I brought someobody in to have a look.
The news isn't all bad,the 98 needed a basic service/carb rebuild and runs like a champ.
The 94 however died our second time on the lake (before the evaluation).
I was poking around on the forums and I saw the dreaded grey tempo lines everywhere and figured the carbs were probably a mess,no big deal.Although I could see visually that the exhuast pipe was missing 2 bolts and had another one cross threaded as well.
Well turns out there are a few other problems.2 of the motor mounts are shot and the oil line running to the front cylinder was missing. The boat has been run like that at least 3 times to my knowledge, probably more than that.now the compression tests at a perfect 150 in the rear but around 138 in the front. My pro said 1000 bux to take care of everything which he does not recommend because of the compression issue.
He says 2000 bux to drop a new motor in and deal with all issues.Ouch!
So my question is how would ya'll proceed?
I really don't want to invest major dollars into a pretty ratty looking 94.
Sell her for parts?
Rebuild the top half,do motor mounts, exhuast repair, and oil line myself then have the pro come back in and redo the carbs?
I am no master mechanic but I have pulled motors out of cars and replaced them as well as many other tasks over the years when cars were easier to work on.I still do some of my own repairs today.
(I am not so comfortable trying to do all of the carb tweaks myself)
I already replaced all of the fuel lines.
Interested in hearing any feedback or offers on the boat for the mechanics out there for that matter!
Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah the pro said it looks like the motor has bad seals as well.Probably needs a full rebuild, not just top half!

I would use your own mechanical ability to buy used parts and patch it up to milk it along. No way should you pay a guy a grand or two for a ski that is probably worth $800 running. You could get a complete running used engine also. Don't fool with those broken bolts, that's just a $25 part.
