Well i have read LOTS of threads from this site and man it is full of information. One thing i have seens lots of are "books" with detail. For those that are answering it seems like that helps. Well get ready. I am going to give you a book to read and MAYBE someone will be able to give more advise. So here it goes...
Ok bought the 3 doos this year from a gentleman that had them parked for 3 years. First thing i did was drain as much fuel as i could out of them and refuel them. Oil levels were good so i just topped them off and headed for the lake. Man they started right up and were ridable. The HX runs great and really a blast to ride. The 98 XP Limited ran good just a little sluggish at the top but fun. The 09 GSX Limited was a dog. It was ridable also but would not get over 10 mph and nothing above 3350 rpms. I attemped to hold the choke a little and it would just get worse. When it started slugging it would smoke. Talked to "techs" who worked on others and really got nothing good for information. So to the net i went. Found this wonderful site and started reading. Starting following your advises and information. So since then I have cleaned the RAVE valves, replaced my gray lines, carbs off and cleaned (sorry not rebuild but found lots of green goo), verified all ports open and operating, selector valve off and cleaned, new plugs, Im sure i have missed something that i have done but i will stop there. So off to the water I go again. At first oh man it starts good and idles nice now. It did take off and run upper 35-40 mph. Then i went to full throttle. It starting surging and would not run smooth. Over a time of about 2 hours it was down to the same thing AGAIN. Idle runs ok but any amount of throttle would bog down and no speed above 3350 rpm.
Now in the mean time the XP has decided it must be contagious. I know it still has the gray hoses and nothing has been done to it. I have taken the RAVE valves off and one was stuck. It now has the same symptoms as the GSX. I am sure I will break down and replace the gray hoses but I sure would like to know what else to do.
Ok next question is about the RAVE valves. On another post I read "take the seat off and watch the valves for movement". Ok I did that on the GSX also. Mine do not move at all. I am not sure if the move down at full throttle or at idle. They were pretty gummed up and carboned up when i took them out and they are all cleaned now. Im just not sure the operation of them.
Well i think that is all for now. Please any advise or information is greatly appreciated.
