Supercharger life span?

Hey everyone, I am looking to get a new ski (new to me) and am considering a ski with a supercharger but was curious about the life span of the supercharger and the motor with a supercharger etc. I am looking at a 2003 Seadoo GTX 4-tec supercharged. Its a limited edition. It looks pretty nice and has only 70 hrs on it. Anything to look for with the ski, or major issues with it?

I have 100 hrs on my RXP. Im told to rebuild the SC every 100 hrs but the funny thing I was told every 200 hrs from a bigwig with SeaDoo?

haha! :lol: off the top of my head I can't remember what the manual says but I think it's 100 hours. I wonder if that SeaDoo bigwig was telling you 200 hours cuz he needs to pad his bonus check from repairs?

The supercharged models are alot of fun to ride, nice power boost BUT speed costs the superchargers are supposed to be rebuilt every 100 hours of operation (to replace all the seals and bearings in them... stuff in there spins VERY fast and you don't want it flying apart inside of your engine!). Also I'm not sure but did the 2003 year model 4-TEC engine have the dreaded ceramic supercharger clutch washers or did they start using those in 2004? If it has the ceramic washers they need to be changed out like ASAP as they're prone to cracking and falling apart inside of the engine stopping up the oil pump screens destroying the engine essentailly. Cost to replace the washers yourself itsn't too much (~$100 w/tools and instructions and about 2-3 hours time).

If the price is right and you are ok with the additional maintenance costs of a SC'd engine, then go for it!
