Stuck Impeller

So I picked up a 99 GTI cheap that I was told had a bad top end, they said it had no power. So I brought it home did a compression check 140 psi both cylinders. I pulled the pull off and the wear ring is wasted, has to be a 1/4" gap around the impeller. So i go to remove the impeller and it is frozen on the shaft. I tried holding the shaft and using a breaker bar to loosen the impeller. I've been spraying oil into the threads of the impeller and heated the shaft a little from inside the impeller. Any ideas on how to get the impeller off?

More fire imo. Heat the impeller, not the shaft directly. You want the impeller to expand, if you heat the shaft it will expand, further locking the impeller.

If they used red loctite I would get it hot and crack it wth a breaker bar.

To break red Loktite...You need to melt it,,,according to the Loktite site.

You need to put the pump in a good vise with the flats of the back of the shaft clamped in the vise. Then using a breaker bar and the correct impeller spline tool it should come off with some heat on the impeller. A propane torch works the best.

Some assemblers over torque the prop,,,,or they put on a ton of red thread locker,,,or Both! Yikes!,,,Making it very hard to remove the prop,,,my vice (in a wood bench), at home,,,will spin with the breaker bar,,,sometimes,,,but fortunately,,,at the shop the work bench is heavy steel,..sufficient heat will be your best friend,,,and perhaps an extra set of hands to hold the pump secure.

I got it!! There was a ton of loctite and the threads were a bit corroded. The ski was left in the water. Thanks for the help!

Spray some wd40 /penetrating fluid etc on those threads,,,and then run them on a wire brush,,,quickens the cleanup job,,,when I put a prop on....l use a tiny drop of red,,,that prop is not loosening!
