What engine do you have? Does the stater gear stay engaged in the flywheel after engine starts? As the engine starts, it should drive the starter gear back down. If the engine does not actually start, the starter gear staying engaged is kind of normal.

B billmar99 New Member Jun 12, 2023 #3 It's Mercury V6 EFI. The starter gear engages in the fly wheel but stops and sticks in the flywheel. The engine doesn't turn over. It's a new starter.
