I have a 1998 Seadoo Sportser 1800 which has been killing staters for multiple reasons.
1st it was due to excess vibrations destroying internal magnets. I fixed that issue with new motor mounts.

Now, in both engines, the starters failed by burned out brush leads within 30 minute of each other.
Something is shorting this out. What could be causing this to happen?
Thanks!

You might want to check and see if there is any unnecessary pressure on the cylinders on startup. Pull your plugs, hold a towel over the plug holes and see if any thing comes out. I burned up/ overheated a brand new OEM starter due to oil sitting on the top of the pistons after sitting all winter. Are these OEM starters your talking about? Aftermarket starters are notorius for not lasting long..

One was an OEM and the others were non oem.
I find it hard to belive there is extra pressure on the cylinders as the boat has been running and starting/stoping with no problems every time. It cranks right up as soon as I hit the start button.

Starter cuts off as soon as i release the start button. Is there anything anyone can think of why both starters would be geting too much current?
