SPX Bad MPEM?

Hi guys, hope everyone is having a good summer. My 1998 SPX has recently started giving me trouble. It was running great out on the water and then it just died. No power to gauge cluster, no double beep on key insertion, no crank. Get towed back to shore. I first removed, inspected and thoroughly cleaned the main ground wire thinking it looked dirty. Reinstall after a good cleaning of both terminals, ski fires up and runs for about 30 seconds before it dies again. No power to gauges, no crank.

Next I use a multimeter on the DESS post. Following the guidelines, all 3 wires from it have continuity. Although my DESS key is pretty worn and loose on the post, it still seems to be working according to multimeter.

It's worth noting, the ski does not "wake up" when I hit the start button without the key attached. Gauges don't move. My VTS has the garage-door opener fix, which does still work. I know this fix entirely bypasses the MPEM, so that is my rationale for thinking it's bad. The timing is also slightly weird because only 2 days ago and ~2 hours of ride time earlier, I had replaced the start/stop switch I confirmed to be bad. Installed a used OEM one. I also learned upon inspecting the starter solenoid E-box, the PO had too beefy a fuse in one of the slots. He had a 15amp when the manual called for a 7.5amp

Could it be anything else aside from a bad MPEM?

I'd check and make sure the pins in the MPEM are clean and free off corrosion, especially the 3 flat ones. clean all your pins on the plugs, check your grounds. Unplug the rectifier or replace it. I had a bad rectifer cook the MPEM on my 1996 SPI. I was running hard and it just quit. After that, no fire or anything. Blew the diode in the MPEM. The 1996 MPEM was much more simple.
