Spark plug and gap for 2003 optimax M2 250

Hi

I just bought a 2003 Utopia with a Optimax 250 engine.

I removed a plug to check it out, it looks pretty decent no deposits. But I thought I might replace them anyway. The ones I removed are NGK PZFR5F-11. But on the NGK website it only has a listing for the 2006 model and its part number is IZFR5G.

So anyboody know what's the proper plug and gap for my 2003 M2?

You should be using the NGK BPZ8HS10 with a gap of .040" or 1.0mm......so, I don't know why you got different plugs in there.........:ack:

Judging from the above it seems that plug is for the 240 M2 Jet not the 250. The 250 is an Optimax so its a lot different than the 240 EFI.

Too bad because they are one third the price!

Look a bit harder....

Sorry to disagree with you Kevin.......
Seadoo started using the Mercury M-2 Optimax engines in it's jet boats starting in 2000. The last one used was in 2004, if I remember right. During the Mercury's run in the Bombardier watercraft, they used the 200, 210, 240 and the 250 horsepower M-2 Optimax engines. There are a few differences in them as far as stroke and compression along with the naturally aspirated carb models and the fuel injected models. But other than those few differences, the Optimax engines designed for use in the Seadoo's are basically the same.

I did a little poking around and found that the plug you pulled, is just a more expensive plug. It's designed to provide better, more focused spark while adding to the life of the plug. The one I quoted you in post #2 is the stock plug. So, if you like the other plugs results, then you may want to keep using it but for half the price, you can get a plug that runs about the same, with no noticeable difference. As for the extended life? I change my plugs out once a season, whether they need it or not. Then, the ones I pull are rotated out with the spare (used) set I keep in the glove box. Just in case. You never know when you might foul one...........Cheers!
