My cousin got the 1995 SPX fixed up and on the water. There was some discussion on towing and an aftermarket rig so you don't pull the back of the ski apart. I don't tow anything with the SPI generally one a single rider on that one. What type of kit do they sell for towing or any ideas on building something and where to attach it? I noticed the 96' GTX doesn't seem to have anything special on the rear. Input is appreciated.

You mean pulling a tube or wakeboard? If so, the gtx has really thick glass in the back and just attach your rope to the tie down spot. I have towed two people in a tube with no issues, even with hammering it with slack in the rope.

Gave my cousin a SPX and I have a SPI. Not sure what he plans to pull but I saw pictures of back end of a Seadoo ski pulled apart and the owner said he was pulling a device. Not sure what it was.

I had a '97 SPX (in my avatar) and used to get my '92 GTS (430lb 3-seater) on plane towing it. I'd do maybe 35mph across a relatively calm lake with no ill effects. On that model, the tow hook was inset inside a little cavity. That shape very effectively transfers the forces to a wide area and makes for a great tow hook location.

Yea, I believe you always have to obey the maximum capacity of the vessel with skis. Though, I researched the rules on max capacity on boats, my findings concluded that the max occupancy number on the sticker is only a suggestion. It's not an actual law to follow it. However, the enforcement officer has it in his jurisdiction to cite you with reckless endangerment or some similar charge. It's really up to them, and your attitude with those guys usually has a big effect on how that situation turns out for you. I've found that most of them are pretty good guys.
