Shifter locking up

Anyone has experience dealing with the shifter sticking in the forward position on a 2004 Seadoo Speedster Jetboat. I figured out how to unlock this by getting to the stern of the boat and unlocking the stainless locking pin underwater. This is a recurring and potentially dangerous problem since I cannot move the lever to a neutral position when I'm in forward motion, and to fully stop, I have to pull out the key from the DESS post. I am also unable to restart the boat since the lever is stuck in Forward, until I feel for this lock underwater and disengage it. I noticed that th jets are in an extreme up position when this happens and as soon as I release this lock , the jets swivel down a little. Any tips on resolving this problem will be appreciated.

had a similar issue on our 98 Sportster. What happened to ours is the metal rod that ties the shifter cable to the control handle bent, and ultimatley broke. Pull the control handle off check this rod and also check the brass sleeve that the rod slides into. Unfortunatley for us the parts for that on our boat were discontinued so we had to have a metal worker actually fabricate the parts. Another thing you can check is where the shifter cable comes outta the transom and hooks to the black reverse gate on the back. (i'm assuming its the same set up) There is a a rod with a round "eye" that ties them together. This eye has a sort of adjustibility to it by loosening and tightening a couple of nuts. What this allows you to do is to be sure that the eye is rolling smoothly on the ball joint on the reverse gate assy. Good luck, and hope this helps

Same Problem

I had a similar problem with my 98 speedster and ended up bending the cable at the controls.. If it is similar you can adjust the release on it as stated in the previous post.. Take the bolt out of the lever with the clip and extended it so when push the lever forward and causes it to release.. I really screwed mine up by pushing to hard on it with out relizing it would not release.. Changing that cable was no fun...
