My gsx sounds good out of water, when in the water running from 0-15 kinda sluggish for a second then it catches an really takes off but with tight steering

Anyone have any ideas?

I don’t know what you mean by tight steering, and What exactly is it doing when it feels sluggish? Is it stuttering, bogging, hesitating, or does it feel like the engine is revving but it takes a bit for the ski to catch up?

It takes a bit for it to catch. The steering feels real hard to turn when it gets going at a good acceleration, none of my others have this problem

If the steering is difficult you probably need a new steering cable. The corrode on the inside and seize up.

It sounds like cavitation then. You need to inspect the wear ring around the impeller. It should be a tight fit, somewhere between a few sheets of paper to a dime’s width of clearance. If it’s more than that or has gouges in it, you’ve found your problem.

I actually just put a new ware ring in it an did a jet pump rebuild. Which helped a lot, before I did that it would barley go over 8 mph

Then I would turn my attention to the carbon ring or an air leak somewhere around the pump. Any source of air getting into the high velocity water charge can cause cavitation...

So I’m confused. Is there something wrong with the steering?

Is it not running correctly?

Is it like a clutch slipping and won’t move forward but rpm racing?

Does the engine not run correctly?
