Seadoo gsx 787 1997 runaway

Recently bought a 1997 seadoo gtx 787, wasn’t in great condition but the carbys have been cleaned and all the fuel system connected correctly but when it starts it will pretty much instantly rev to 8000 rpm and had a case where it wouldn’t shut off without cutting fuel supply and waiting for it to run out of fuel in the carbys. The carbys have been reset with the high and low speed screws returned to factory any ideas on what it could be? Engine sounds healthy but I’m out of ideas on why this is happening

Probably an air leak in the system. Check that the carbs are tightened at the base where the gasket is and the gasket is not cracked. Check that the throttle cable is adjusted properly. Does it still have gray fuel lines? Where the carbs rebuilt using original Mukini kits? Other places to check would be the fuel selector switch, the fuel lines and conections and the pulse line to the mag carb. Use the choke to shut down the engine quicker than running the fuel out because it is running lean and could damage the engine.

also check throttle cable has a little bit of slack on it

We replaced the gaskets on the carbs yesterday runs way better so that’s obviously where the air was coming from but it still doesn’t want to idle and it does foul plugs really easily is this just meaning it’s now too rich?

That is hard to answer without reporting on the other questions asked. If the carbs are rebuilt and set to factory setting with the proper needle and seat then it should not be rich. Is the oil pump set to the calibration mark?

I haven’t looked at the oil pump yet thanks I’ll check that next
