Hey everyone,
Thought it might help to put together a quick list of what I think are the best beginner-friendly PWCs going into 2025. Because new riders often ask what’s easiest to handle, maintain, and actually have fun on? and not just what’s the fastest.
Here’s what keeps coming up in my research and talking to owners:
Sea-Doo Spark
Light, playful, and affordable. Great for flat water and learning balance. Downsides? Limited storage and can get bouncy in chop.
Yamaha EX
Similar price to Spark but with Yamaha’s classic reliability. Slightly heavier, which makes it feel a bit more stable for brand-new riders.
Sea-Doo GTI 130
A step up in size and comfort. Better for two-up riding, towing tubes, or mild waves. Not too aggressive but feels like a “real” full-size PWC.
Yamaha VX (non-HO)
Solid choice for beginners who want something that can also keep up with friends. Heavier hull adds stability. Lower-maintenance four-stroke engine.
Kawasaki STX 160
Often overlooked, but smooth ride and lots of room for passengers or gear. A bit more power, but still manageable if you start easy.
Because beginners usually overestimate how much speed they really need, I’d say start around 100–130hp. You’ll still hit fun speeds without scaring yourself (or passengers!).
Also, check for must-have basics like rebounding steps, neutral/reverse, and enough storage for water, phone, and safety gear.
Before you buy, compare local dealer support, insurance rates, and service access too.
What do you all think? Any models you’d add (or avoid) for true beginners in 2025? Share your picks and why — it might help someone shopping right now.
