I have a challenger 1800, 98' and one engine has no thrust at all. It just stopped working on water when in motion and the engine just sounded like it stripped something or a pin sheered in the impeller shaft or something. It will start fine but idles very high and if I give it gas in or out of gear it revs very high very fast and spinns at high rpm's for a long time. There is no thrust at all on the one engine. I took it out of the water and found a piece of platic tie from a newspaper bundle sticking out of the jet. If it did break something how can I check? Any ideas on cost to fix?

Thank you,

josh

50 buks for new wear ring and about 2-3 hrs of your time, as long as impellor aint screwed up. And even if, then contact impros or sbt, for refurbishment of your impellor for 25-75 buks...

Hey Thanks.

Sounded like something got jammed up in there. I can't find anymore debris in the intake or the outatke just having the boat on a trailer. In the water it sounds like it spinning with less friction than normal, but no thrust at all.

So I am new to this boat and fixing engines other than some work on small 4 stroke outboards. Do I start by taking of the the entire back section of the jet from where it attaches to the boat, or is this just where the jet pump nozzels are.

Where exactly and or how do i get to the wear ring? I would really like to do this work myself and my friend that is a pretty good mechanic. The coleman powersports in this area charges 130/hr to get in there and fix things.

Is there a way to prevent this in the future? I was in the middle of a channel in 10 plus feat of water. It is DC and the Potomac river which has a lot of debris but there are plenty of other jetboats out there without having these kind of issues.

Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it greatly!

So I took off the two jets and we looked through them carefully. The broken side impeller seems to be fine and the margins look ok. I did remove a small stick from it. It seems that the rod that attaches from the impellor to the "Gear box" or transmisson box is stripped somehwre inside. If I lift the rod and turn I can fells itr turning inside the gear box but otherwise it spins almost freely. The other jet side has the rod tight when i try to turn it. So I assume that the next step is to take off the distributor to get to the gear box (if thats what it is called) and replace either that or the rod. Its very hard to get it in there. Otherwise i will have to take to the shop which seems would cost a lot of money to fix. Any advice or ideas on cost or parts?

Also are there screens i could buy to put on the underside of boat to cover the intake areas so this dosn't happen again?

Any help appreciated.

Josh
