Running on the hose

It says in the manual that you should start the motor then immediately turn the hose on. Then shut the water off before you turn off the engine.

My question is, what problems will arise if you turn the water on before the engine is running and shut the water off after the engine has stopped??

You will flood your engine with water. And have big problems. The water gets rammed up the exhaust and goes in through the exhaust valves.
