Guys should this replaced looks like a chip missing?

The chip isn’t really an issue but what caused it?

How deep are the groves?

I’m not sure what caused the chip
I know the brass rotary gear is chewed up not sure if that could’ve worked it’s way out there.
But I’m waiting on a long block just wasn’t sure if I should replace this or not
Is there a known way to measure the grooves ?

If you can feel them it’s not good.
The manual shows how to measure the clearance using solder.

No luck on finding a rotary valve SBT says they have a backlog on my particular model and won’t do a core exchange.
Anyone know where to get one or can I try and use this one for the time being without damaging my new engine?
