Yes, you read that correctly. I saw a 951 X4 build on HulkGreen  and because I can't leave well enough alone, I want to do some gauge swapping in my 96 XP since I already have all the parts laying around. I want to use this thread to host all questions and hopefully document the build. My first question is electronics compatibility: I have a 96 GSX Info and Tach gauges and a 96 GTX MPEM- any reason why that combo wouldn't play well together? I vaguely remember something on a 96 GSX being rare/ quirky, but I can't remember what.

Here are pictures from the build I was referring to:

I plan on making both gauges fit in that area and hopefully blending them in a little better (not to knock that guys work in any way). What say you SDF folks?

Yes the 96 GSX and GTX share the same MPEM. It should end in 897. Your gonna want to read a lot of this if you have not already. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...tTS5SDSd89apVLvOp0dVpuw&bvm=bv.85970519,d.eXY

Thanks for the reply Matt.

My next question: I know the gauge hookups are all wrong for the 897 MPEM to hook up to the XP, but would this MPEM power the XP without any gauges hooked up? I need to swap the current XP MPEM into a flipper XP in order to sell it, but I don't want my personal XP down until I get the GSX gauges wired in.

Oh yeah I swap the 897's and the 510's(a 96XP MPEM) all the time. I don't think there is any performance loss with the 897 and I like them because they have a tach wire.

Well, that settles that. Sounds like I have some fiberglass work ahead of me! Thanks Matt!

I have a 96 gsx front e box minus the mpem and cdi. Also a gsx harness I could sell you cheap. Then everything is plug and play. No messing with anything else.
