Hey guys i am rebuilding my rave valves because one of the bellows ripped. But question, should I be able to start the engine with the valves removed? Wanting to test some other things but waiting for the new stuff from osd. (I’m a noob)

Thank you. So I rebuilt the Rave valves yesterday with new diaphragms, o-rings, springs, and gaskets parts I got from osd.. and I went through almost 2 tanks of gas between yesterday and today and then the ski wouldn’t start and I found the pto side diaphragm I had just replaced yesterday was already torn. Ended up getting towed in. Do you know what would cause it to tear in just over a day? I was thinking excessive exhaust pressure but not sure

Torn or melted? If the valves are not free to move up and down it will damage the diaphragm and the piston. Melt. The valve can drag on the gasket and get stuck partially open or fully open. Not sure what happened to yours though. I installed the valves one time and went about 300 yards. :D Ran like crap for about 2 minutes and cleaned up. Rode for an hour but it was down a couple mph. When I got home the mag piston was melted. :) The exhaust being in the way requires a little more diligence when installing the valve.
