Stupid me pulled the cone off to change the oil while the pump was out..was not thinking last night about the shaft moving and the thrust bearing catching. Of course, this morning the impeller wouldn’t move.

New thrust bearing and washer are on the way..However, what is the proper way to ensure it doesn’t break when installing the impeller?
Should I just leave the shaft in the vice, put the washer and bearing onto the shaft, then lower the pump down onto it and spinning the impeller on? Or is there another way I should do it?

That is exactly how I do them to avoid pinching the bearing.

Keep the shaft vertical in the vice and put everything over it. Don't remove it until the impeller is torqued down.
