Oil leak

This is all new to me, but its fun reading all these posts. I have a 2000 challenger. I had it into the shop because I noticed that there was a pooling of oil right where the bilge pump sits. Took it in to have them check it out, they said they fixed it, but noticed there is still a leak. Where would I want to check it myself. Looking at the motor is somewhat overwhelming.....also we need to replace a broken shift cable (hung up on a boat lift). Is this hard to do by ourself, or do i need to take it in. I am having a problem trying to find what it is called or what to order exactly. Hope it is not real spendy.

First...about the shift cable...check out the parts link at the top of this forum. Pick out your boat year and go to the propulsion system section. Then hold on to your wallet. $136.00 will get you a new cable. Attaching the cable to the control handle should be straightforward. Getting it to the pump is esay , but connecting it may be a little tough because of the tight work space. If you are mechanically inclined at all, it should be easy enough.

As for your oil leak, do yourself a favor and sign up as a premium member to this forum so you can download the repair manual. It's a life saver. You have an oil line from the reserve tank that feeds to the tank mounted to the engine. This line splits with a check valve before feeding the engine mounted tank. Then a line goes from the engine tank to the oil pump on the port side (passengers side) of the engine. Then a line from the pump to the vapor separator.

You should check all connections for leaks. Look at the check valve that splits the line going into the engine mounted tank. If it's bad, it may leak as well.

Check to make sure both caps on oil tanks are on tight.

thanks scarfie, appreciate your help. I DO have a repair manual, and of course its alittle foreign until we learn what is what. I ended up bringing it into the shop. He told me it will cost me approximately 300.00 dollars (and he did quote that price for the cable) to put the cable in and fix the oil link. I am bookmarking so many posts for future reference, and hopefully from now on we can fix it. These boats are so hard to get to things...........appreciate your response!!
