This is a very stupid question but I’ve got a 2000 GTX 951. Does the engine have oil like a car? I pre mix my 2 stroke with my fuel.

No, it doesn't have an oil pump and pump oil through the engine like a car, it uses the mix of 2 stroke oil and gas to lubricate/cool the engine instead.

It's a tricky question....

If your GTX has carbs then premixing is fine but uses more oil that the automatic oil injection that it came with from the factory.

If your GTX is the DI fuel injected model then you can not pre mix and have to run the factory oil injection.

You should be mixing at 40:1 especially on a 951. 50:1 is too lean in my opinion especially on the highly stressed 951.

Can the carbs be set to run at 50:1?

As asked above, do you have a 951 DI or is it carbed? If you're a DI or RFI don't premix, just use the factory oil injection. Are you still running oil injection or is it blocked off?

Mine is a carbed GTX 787, I run XPS oil with the factory injected setup, but add a little 60:1 premix and some marine stabil. Not required, just a preference I do.

It isn't the carbs that need to be set. The carbs mix the air and fuel, we are talking about the fuel and oil mixture. If you have a carbed 951 premix the gas and oil to 40:1. You don't need to change the carb settings.

Where the oil goes has been removed. The guy who I bought it off said to mix it at 50:1 he said something about the jets been set up for that ratio. I’ve took his word for it. So you suggest to mix it at 40:1?

I know the injection has been removed. And yes, I am saying 50:1 is not enough oil. You should be running it at 40:1 and your carb jets have nothing to do with it. You do not have to change the carb jetting to go to premix or run 50:1 or 100:1 or 32:1 or 40:1.

Your engine needs oil to survive just like any engine, I am telling you 40:1 but you are free to do what you want.

The factory oil injection on these works great and there is no reason to remove it. The stock system is variable rate based on throttle position, at idle it is at about 100:1 and at wide open throttle it is at 32:1 which is perfect for the engine. When we break-in a new engine we run the factory injection and premix at 50:1. THey still run perfect and don't foul plugs.

And to beat a dead horse, what oil are you using to premix?

It’s my first ski so Im really not clued up on them. Just going with the bloke I bought it off. He said 50:1 so I just took his word. I will take the advise onboard. It was already removed when I bought it.

X2 on miki's posts, I take way too long to rebuild an engine to be perfect (if there were such a thing) so I run at 32:1 with Motul 800, not recommending a brand of oil but it better be synthetic and too much oil (32:1 isn't too much) does no lasting harm, too little and you will do a rebuild sooner, the old better safe than sorry.

Miki told you straight up. Good luck
