Ohming a speed sensor

Is this a valid way to test it? The shop manual says to check the sensor with power applied. Shouldn't you just be able to check for continuity across the 2 wires when the paddle is spinning? I checked mine and I get NO continuity. I think this would indicate that it is bad but I just wanted to make sure before I spend $100 on a new one.

Thanks guys.

You have to do the test with power to it. Don't waste your loot on a new wheel. Save for a gps. The wheels are never accurate.

Are you 100% sure you have to test with power? It is just a reed switch setup, the paddle wheel has a magnet in each point that should pull a switch closed inside the sensor unit itself. Why do you have to have power? Shouldn't you just be able to check for continuity?

you need to check volts DC instead of ohms. the flucuation should be between 5.5 and 8.5 with wheel spinning. that can only be done with power on. if you get no fluctuation then wheel is bad!
