Hi,
a buddy just gave me his 99 XP Limited. It was last used about 4-5 years ago, winterized / stored for the winter (we have deep freeze temperatures for about 5 months) and hasn't been used since.
I really know nothing about these. What should I do to it to get it running again? I'd rather not pay a fortune but I don't want to kill it as soon as I try starting it if there's any preventative / precautionary maintenance I should have done.

Let me know. Thanks,
Mike

---- Update ----

From other posts, I got this list :

- Compression test (before anything). (Should I put engine oil in the spark plug holes before even turning it over?)
- You will need to change out all those grey fuel lines with automotive fuel line.
- Change fuel valve selector
- Rebuild all carbs with genuine Mikuni parts.
- Change the oil filters.
- I always replace the fuel valves and strainers.
- Verify you are using API-TC full synthetic oil.
- Change the small 3/32" oil injection lines.
- Change the jet pump oil.
- Grease the driveshafts/PTO.
- Rave Valve clean.

Should I also
- Put in new plugs ?
- Change fuel filter(s) ?
- Drain fuel tank ?

What you've listed is a great start. Do all of those things (in addition to the "Should I also..."). Ride and have fun. Keep in mind without opening up the engine you may have a ticking time bomb on your hands. It may run but none of us know how long it will be because you don't know the condition of the crank etc. Maybe bench test the oil pump to confirm it is working properly. I would ride it until it breaks and then you can rebuild the engine. It may last a long time or may last a few hours who knows but by doing what you've indicated above gives you the best outcome.
