Needle and seat info

Starting a new thread to share some info that I basically already knew, but re-verified last night. While asking a question about the difference between 2.0 seat and a 1.5 seat for performance I was told that the stock seat was 1.5, which is fine and I did change out last night. 1983 also shared that I needed to put in a 1.5 needle and seat as opposed to a 2.0 needle and seat. Eluding to a matched set, which is false. The needle on both seats are the same, the bore for the needle in the seat is the same and the depth is the same, also along with the taper angle of the seat and needle. The only thing different is the metering hole thru the seat. This is so you can change just the seat to tune the carb or just the needle if worn out and has ridges. Yes it is optimal to change both at once if you suspect an issue but you can just replace one item as long as you do the proper test and verify it is within spec. I have done this in the past on many mikuni carbs. I am just a seadoo noob not a engine or motor noob in general. This is why I defer to this forum and the collective knowledge that it has in regards to my seadoos but when I get bad info I will point it out.

I would not say you were given bad info but what 1983 was saying is that you don't want to use worn or old needles as they do deform to the particular seat. So replacing them as a set is $15 and makes little sense to replace just the needle at that cost.

He said that they are a matched set......which they are not. I am not arguing that replacing both isn't the better option.

"I would never interchange a 1.5 needle into a 2.0 seat. It won't operate correctly.

Rob"

As long as all tests pass there should be no issue because the needle is the same for both.

Not starting a war or argument....I just had to vent a touch. Lets just say a possible misguidance.

I will also note that I humbly realize that 1983 knows way more about these sea doos then I probably ever will and always find his posts helpful.

If your trying to call me out you need to do it via PM.

These forums are very helpful and with generous people, I was trying to help you. Are you an attorney or something? Your seeming to take this real personal. You need to take a breather I think. I don't like your comments on my thread or in this thread.

I very nicely said that if you start your own thread regarding your own boat problems you would get better help than asking on my thread. You seem to have taken that the wrong way and want to argue about needles and seats. But thanks for derailing mine anyway.

Have fun with those 2.0 needles at the lake, hell put 3.5s in they would do great with whatever needle and seat combo you want. Leave me out of your threads and i'd really like it if you didn't comment on any of mine anymore. Use google. This isn't like your standard automotive forum where everyone complains and calls each other out over the internet.

I am not calling you out, who is taking it personal now???? I just would like for the correct info represented later when a person that doesn't know does a search. Would a PM solve that....Nope.

I know these forums are VERY helpful, that's why I joined, but do remember that this is a discussion forum. People will question you or even not agree all of the time. I am simply pointing out what I have found with measurements and my real world experiences. Mine are different then yours. You agree or not agree I really don't care. Might have taught you something you didn't know.....l learn new things everyday and I have had my share of life experiences. So take it with a grain of salt there Rob. Lastly I will view and comment when needed on which ever thread that I feel I can be of some assistance. If it happens to be a thread posted by you and I know the answer guess what.... I will comment. Derailing of threads happen on all message boards, get over it.

You can argue all you want bud, your wrong. You need to know that. You have an attitude problem as well. Maybe take that with a grain of salt.

The PM suggestion is to discuss your ongoing posts about the needle subject on my thread and the need to call me out in your thread. It could have been handled via PM.

You should care, especially when your real world experiences are a joke. You haven't taught me anything but you love to argue.

There is nothing for me to get over. Go derail someone else's threads. Please by all means go comment on my threads. I highly suggest you don't.

I'm here to have fun working on these and meeting new people with same interests. Maybe you should help people and get to know some members before catching a Mr. Knowitall charisma.

Be sure to start a thread on those mismatched needles and seats on your next lake outing, I hear they do real well on our skis.

It is not about the content, it is about the tone. Someone told me lately that I was "one of those guys that burns fuel like its water". I didn't appreciate the comment and I thought it was borderline on being polite as this person didn't know my reality (that I was living full time on the shore of a big lake and being close to retirement and that I had lots of time of my hands, which I explained politely after).

My point is, always try to read your own messages like if they were directed at you and you may end up not writing lots of stuff. I try to do that every day just to be on the safe side (but I do get upset too once in a while). You can always challenge someone about their opinions and skills with questions, but not attack them directly in their knowledge.

:)

Benji.
