I need to replace the tires on my boat trailer, 175/80-13. This is the first time I have had to do this. I just do understand whay passenger tires can not be used in place of the st tires as long as the load range is the same. They cost 1/2 the price and seem to last much long and are more dependable. Any advice will be appreciated.

For the most part trailer rated, or "ST" tires are supposed to be able to carry much more weight, and be designed to run without the aid of shock absorbers. Having said that I have know people that have had good luck with passenger rated tires, but if you look at the two side by side when they are not mounted, the trailer tires do have a much thicker side wall. I run the heaviest ST I can get on all my trailers just for piece of mind.

good trailer tires are... goodyear marathon/maxxis/carlisle..just make sure they are trailer tires and they are radial...max them up on the air pressure and use any good silicone based tire protectant for long life!
