Looking at a 2001 Sea-Doo that's for sale. Believe it's either a GTX or GTX-DI. Where will I find the 4 digit model number that identifies exactly which model it is?

Also, owner has been using some off-brand TWC3 oil in the injector reservoir. Is that an automatic disqualifier for purchase?

Thanks!

Look inside the hull for a sticker(s) which will have the model number on it. There may be other numbers on it as well, and perhaps a barcode. Just know what numbers are the model numbers, so if you see it, you will know.

My stickers are white, but cannot guarantee yours would be.

Typically, yes it is.

Ultimately, how much damage it would have done depends on how long he ran with the TWC3 oil. It could be bad, it could be minor at this point.

You could use that as a bargining chip to reduce his price. I personally wouldn't consider any less than $1000 off to help cover the cost of a new engine if things are bad. But, from his viewpoint, he may just say no to you and sell to the first guy who doesn't know any better.

Unless I was getting a GREAT deal, I would pass. I have been following sales of these machines for years, and there never seems to be a shortage of good deals out there.

2001 gtx?

Thanks for all the info.

I found 2 white paper decals showing 5539 which indicates a GTX. However, under the seat is a sticker that says 5528 Sea-Doo GTX DI. Who knows?

Based on the answer on the oil, I think I will just let this one go for now and keep looking.

Any horror stories on the 2007 supercharged models?

Well, the seats would be interchangable between the GTX and the GTX DI. Most likely, that seat was originally off of a GTX DI. For future reference, trust the stickers in the hull.

Possibly ceramic washer on the supercharger system. They break and can cause major problems. They may have been swapped out already with metal ones, but make sure you ask.
