Major oil coming out my exhaust!

Hello All,

Any advice would be appreciated!

So got my machine on the water yesterday and she runs great! no bogging, smoking, or stalling out.
After running it for about an hour I noticed oil running out on my exhaust, so I pulled it out of the water.
Once on land I tilted the seadoo to drain the water, and oil out, and it drained literally all the oil out from the tank.
There is no oil in the hull, so it is only going through the exhaust, excessively!

Any input would be great!

Thanks,

Mike

This is only possible if some oil injection plumbing was connected incorrectly, I think. But in that case I don't see how the ski could be ridden without causing damage due to lubrication system malfunction.

The oil injection system is pretty straightforward, are you sure it's plumbed correctly?

So i went over the lines and everything checks out, checked my choke alignment and that also checks out. The slow mix screw seemed to be pretty open, so i followed the manual to adjust, but could this have cuased this problem?

It sounds like if you were to fill the oil tank, it would just run by force of gravity out of the exhaust?

If oil consumption is very high while running, there will be a lot of smoke and the spark plugs will probably foul too often. In this case, makw sure the oil injection pump is correctly adjusted to the witness marks. As you pull the throttle there's an arm on the pump, that is a proportional valve that increases oil flow as throttle is increased. That's how the lubrication oil is increased when it's needed, proportionally, instead of wasting it.

So, maybe the cable that moves the oil injection pump lever arm is misadjusted?

thanks for the input, however this is not resolving the issue. When I put oil in the seadoo it will just drain right out by force of gravity. tried various adjustments but nothing seems to work. I'm really lost on this one.

not sure if it matters, but first off, do you have an in line oil filter from the feed line?

need clear pictures of engine compartment, oil tank, exhaust hoses, pipes etc.

take as many as possible and post here or use a picture hosting site

If it truly is (and I believe you) running straight out the exhaust by gravity, there's no adjustment that can correct this b/c the problem isn't related to an adjustment. I suspect there's a plumbing error.

I'd bet either the lower rotary valve oil supply or upper rotary valve oil return tube is connected into the exhaust pipe somehow?

(note: These photos are of 717 and 787 engine but similar)

You have a line from the oil tank hooked up to the wrong place. Get a copy of the manual here or look at a parts diagram.

As others have said if everything is connected correctly there is no direct connection from the oil tank to the exhaust.
The only possible scenario is if your crank or rotary valve shaft seals are completely gone the oil could go from the oil tank into the crankcase then into the cylinders and out the exhaust but if this was the case you would have so much oil trying to be burned it would smoke like crazy, foul plugs and possibly hydrolock on the oil.

I have looked over the manual and my lines are connected correctly, I am going to remove and clean all the lines and see if this helps. My thinking is maybe something is clogged and forcing the oil out the exhaust rather then the oil return line, if that's possible.

As others have said it's the crank seals

Something is not correct. If it has no running issues and smoking there is no direct connection from the oil tank to the exhaust.

Still haven't attached pictures, takes 5 mins max to shoot a dozen pictures under seat and of oil tank.

We are trying to help but can't do much more without clear pictures.

Okay, obviously we're overlooking something.

Here's an idea that might work... I think it's time to begin pressure checking using air, don't exceed 3~5psi to avoid popping seals that are here and there but connect an air pump to each one of the oil lines that connect to the oil tank, one at a time separately, and see if you can determine which oil line is feeding oil to the exhaust system?

Be sure not to exceed a few psi, just mouth pressure can reveal a lot if the leak is large (sounds like leak is large).

Yes, I will be going out to the seadoo on Sunday and will post pics then!

K thanks for the tip, I will give this a try and post back on Sunday my findings!
I really appreciate everyone's input and advise!

Here's some pics of the engine, let me know if you need more, or have any questions on them.
Thanks for looking!
