Ive got a 97 SPX with 787 motor.

Its got a problem where you try to accelerate and it sort of cuts out/ loses power.
Some times it surges - (speeds up and slows down like your going on and off the throttle.) other times the revs just stay low then it will all of a sudden pick up (like youve just pushed the throttle although its already hard down) then cut out again. It seems to be better when you first ride it (i.e when motors cold).
This problem happens constantly everytime you ride it and is very frustrating.

I've replaced the fuel lines, spark plugs and trimmed spark plug leads.

Any ideas on what this could be??

Carbs??
Blocked exhaust??
Rave valves??

When you replaced the fuel lines, did you clean or replace the fuel selector valve? Have the carb filters been cleaned? Sound like a fuel system problem.

Yes I cleaned the selecter valve and the strainer in the front carb where the fuel line goesm in, this didnt make any difference.
Maybe need to clean out/rebuild carbs??

Anyone got any links about cleaning/rebuilding carbs??
