This 96 xp has done this to me 2 or 3 times now. Starts up fine. I rode out of the no wake zone and punch it and It sounds like it just maxes out rpm at like 4500 and can't rev any higher. I shut it off and turn it back on and punch the throttle right away and it goes like crazy and is fine the rest of the day. I'm kinda lost.

I know if I suck up a blade of river grass or something I get the same thing. I shut it off, start it and its gone. I have physically verified a few times that there was something in there. Just s possibility.

Usually something blocking the intake you shut it off and it gets away from the grate that's been my experience

Nope. Sounds like a 96 grey box with a bad rectifier in it.
