The stainless nuts that hold the Impeller Housing tight to the transom will not come off of the studs. I am guessing that someone has overtightened them and stretched or galled the stainless studs or nuts. I can still wrench them slightly, but not enough to remove them before binding. I'm sure that if I keep pushing it I will either gall the threads until nothing moves, or break the studs. I have used WD-40 and PB Blaster still no joy even after letting them soak for days.
Seems like this may be a typical problem. I have worked with stainless on other stuff and had the same trouble. Usually something gets stuck then way more work is needed to fix.
Any suggestions? Any better penetrating oil for stainless that may do the trick? Am I going to be forced to break the studs then deal with that? Maybe try to cut the nuts with a small cutoff wheel? IDK just guessing.
What do you guys that have seen this before suggest?
