how to tell how much fuel you have

this may be a dumb question, but i was filling up my boat once and all of a sudden the gas tank overflowed. i don't want this to happen again, with my ski.

in a car it stops so it doesn't overflow. but on a boat how can you tell? if there is fuel already in the tank, but don't know how much.

if your guage does not work; you should be able to take the seat off while filling and watch the tank fill; that is what i do on my GTX and on my challenger i just open the engin bay and can see the tank that way

Must have been something wrong with the pump, because that is what makes it stop. All pumps I have used on the water or gas stations stop upon being full. Now if your trying to bypass it and keep pumping, then you will overflow.

the SP model doesn't come with any gauges..i'll try that but the gas tank is foggy looking so it is really hard to see the level of gas.

so, when your filling you vehicle up at the station, it's the pump that makes it stop? i always thought it was the car!? did not know that.

btw..when i was filling my boat up that time, i was using a portable gas tank..that explains alot.

Try filling up a portable gas tank with the hose stuck in. It SHOULD stop when it gets full enough. I gaurantee you that my fuel tanks, both portable and on the ski or cars have nothing to stop the pump.

yea I just look inside the tank... most tanks are a yellowish color and pretty easy to see thru.. urs mite just be dirty?
