I installed a depth finder and went with the inside the hull style tranducer. I set it about a 1.5' to away from the motor and didnt get any readings. I moved it around a bit to different locations and still didnt get any readings. Ipulled it out and put it in the water and started to get readings. My question is if anyone has a 01-03 challenger 1800 running a depth finder where did you put it. I was trying to keep away from doing any drilling but looks like I might have to.

I will admit that I am lazy. My used boat had a transom mounted transducer and the Hawkeye fit in the same holes perfectly. It is mounted to the left of the left pump (I estimate 5-6 inches but could include pictures and dimensions). Worked perfect up to the tested 45 mph. I just felt that the inside mounted transducer was too much of a hassle.

I have to say that it would be neat and clean to have it internal but external mounting was very simple and boating season is starting and I don't want to work :)

The only time I loose readings is when the boat is in neutral. There is a lot of air/water being pushed toward the transducer and it stops working but it is fine when moving.
