Hi All,
I've just bought a 2003 gtx 4 tec with about 14 hrs on it. After running about 1/2 hr there's a long shreek and the check engine light comes on. Have tried to get a code but nothing comes up. After pulling the landyard and reinserting it runs normal for 5 min. and then does the same thing. The oil level is at the top mark(full) and it's not overheating. Could it be the oil pressure switch (top or front) or too much oil in a cold engine?

Thanks, John

They had issues with both oil switches. Front switch part no. 420 256 885 Rear/rt side switch part no. 420 856 530
I would replace them both because either can cause your problem.

ManyThanks !!!! You would think Seadoo would be nice enough to recall these defective switches.

Must be the front switch because I changed the back one and still got the buzzer and check engine light(no codes} ahter 1/2 hr of just idleing up the river. Have ordered new front switch.

Thanks, John

John, full is in the middle of the bend in the dip stick NOT at the top of the bend. For some reason BRP doesn't mark the dipstick with a horizontal line to indicate the full position on the stick... if you read the owner's manual, it says that the engine is full of oil when the level is in the middle of that bend in the stick while cold.

Regards!

Hi Michael.

Yesterday I dropped the oil to the middle of the indicator and changed the rear pressure switch. Went for a 30 min ride and no problems. Picked up the wife and went for a 1/2 hr real slow ride (idle) and the buzzer went off with a long shreek and check engine light came on. No codes. pulled the lanyard and reinserted and it took off like nothing had happened. I've ordered the front pressure switch but it won't get here till the 5th.
Thanks, John

John just for grins open up the oil filter canister and check the oil filter.... another member here was having problems with the alarm going off and SeaDoo going into limp mode, and his mechanic found the oil filter totally collapsed from salterwater intusion into the oil system (the filter filled up with salt particles and stopped up). Turned out his intercooler is leaking water into the engine, just enough to mix with the engine oil and stop of his oil filter. Don't know if this could be your problem too or not, but wouldn't hurt to check the oil filter and make sure it's not stopped up!

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the tip. The ski has about 34 hrs on it now and could probably use a second oil change even though the oil looks good and is not emelusified. I'll get a new filter kit and give it a go. So far I've spent more time working on it than riding it.
Thanks again,
John

I change oil and filter every boating season, no matter what hours are on the meter. Oil and filter are dirt cheap compared to replacement cost of an entire engine.

Michael,
Do you use Seadoo oil ,synthetic or Castrol gtx 10W40 for oil changes? I'm hearing all different opinions. I'm also still waiting for the second oil pressure switch to show up in the mail.

Thanks, John

I'm using the BRP 4TEC oil... it's expensive, but alot cheaper than replacing the entire engine. I'm not saying other oils won't work just as well, only that I'm not willing to risk it for 1 oil change per year.

Michael,
That makes perfect sense. Might as well stay with the tried and true.

Hi Michael,

Just put the front oil switch and noticed what looks like a vacuum port in the middle of the intake manifold. The manual doesn't show if it's plugged or had a hose going to it. I plugged it with a rubbed cap. any ideas?

Thanks, John

I don't see any lines going to the middle of the intake manifold... are you referring to the intake manifold itself, or the cover? There's a place in the cover to hold the small line that goes to the carb for the purposes of spraying fogging oil into the carb when winterizing.... it's supposed to have a yellow cap on top of it. I don't know what else you could be talking about if not that. I cannot seem to find a pic of a 4TEC engine that shows this.... grrrrr!

Hi Michael,

That must be it as it's visible looking from the right side looking down at the engine. Didn't see any loose hoses. It has a cap now.

Thanks again, John S.

Hi, I posted almost the same thing last night on this forum, my bad that I did not look to see if there was a similar post, before posting myself. I also have the gtx limited 02 with the exact problem, I have replaced both the oil sensor's, front and back, and I am still having the same problem you are. I was wondering if replacing your front sensor has fixed your problem? Or if you have any other suggestions...thanks & good luck!

Hi Trevor,

In my case the check engine light came on and there was a loud shreek until I shut it down. It will go into the limp home mode otherwise. Shutting it down and restarting cleared the problem for 5 min. and then the check engine light and shreek again. Changing the front pressure switch soloved the problem.

I have the same problem with my 2003 GTX 4tec. They replaced the oil sensors and the problem is still there. My ski has 24 hours on it. I was told today that there was a recall on the oil pump. They say the pump has grooves in it and causes low oil pressure. They said he supercharger, oil pump and oil sensors were all subject to a recall.

Has anyone heard of these recalls?

Thanks

Stuart
