what is the recommended amperage of the fuel pump on my 99 gsx rfi? i bought an airtex and i called them and they say 11.5 to 13 amps! what to do?

not sure exactly what fuel pump will actually draw. but it is protected by a 10 amp fuse in the mpem

the reason i ask is i know the charging system only puts out an x amount of amps and going too high on the fuel pump would tax the rectifier and not allow enough for the battery to charge. I saw some post on the di but not rfi. different animals? i may be ok but wanted to make sure as i cant find info that i need. i will go ahead and get her running and put a volt meter and see what it reads if that make any sense.

The Di is a different animal.....more pressure. What you can do is compare the amp from your airtex to the Bocsh one listed in the RFI Spot thread. I use that one with no issues.

kicker, you use an airtex? i read a 5 year old post in this forum that a guy used an airtex from a 99 ford explorer so thats what i got. the part no is E2471 and looks just like the original bosch one i pulled. ill ck the fuel injection spot thread, thanks.

Sorry I didn't write that very good.
No I used the Bosch one from Advanced Auto, the same one listed in the RFI spot thread.

There should be a spec sheet that will give u the amp draw.
