Gas pressure out fuel selector valve

I replaced the plugged-up fuel selector valve (on/res/off) last year...no issues after that.
I had the 2000 GS on its trailer/covered during a few weeks in hot Florida and I noticed fuel seeping from around the top of the selector valve. The fuel tank is pretty full. I opened the fuel fill cap and the seepage stopped. Is the cap "vented"? Any simple checks for what might be wrong/stuck?
Thanks,
Tom

There is a vent on the gas tank that is supposed to release the pressure above a few psi.
If you overfilled it and it was really hot that is probably the issue.
