exhaust leak

Guy that's fixing my skis is an hour away. He wanted 135.00 to fix an exhaust leak in the Hull. I noticed it was filling with smoke. At first he said it was in the Hull, then in the exhaust. Said it was a copper ring that needed to be siliconed. Any idea what this is?

WOW! You Been working on a 98 gsx limited and a 97 xp that have sat for 10 years, expext a leak, but we just use high temp sealant..BINGO

The reason I mentioned he was an hour away was because I cant physically see what he is talking about. I figured it would be a common problem just wasnt sure where it was. Is it most likely where the exhaust exits the hull? If so, would he have to remove the exhaust system? Im just curious where his $135.00 price came from if it sounds so simple to just use silicone.....???
