My 1996 Sea Doo GTI really smokes (grey)alot when i first start it up. It seems to run fine, and when it's warmed up isnt' as bad, but the smoke still seems excessive. Is there an adjustment for the oil mixture?

I am not sure which engine is in that boat....however, you say the smoke is grey? Are you sure that it is not just the water traveling through the exhaust system and being blown out as a mist and mixing with the oil burning as well and causing it to appear as smoke? Does this "smoke" linger in the atmosphere and have an odor or does it seem to immedicately particulate and dissapear? What kind of oil are you running in it? Different oils burn very differently and some smoke a LOT more and differently than others. The Seadoo XPS synthetic burns very very clean compared to some others such as yamalube and kawi oils. Just because you either A) think you see too much smoke or B) see what you think is not enough smoke does not actually mean anything. You can be burning plenty of oil and just not see it and also you can be burning a lot of smoke and not be getting enough. Burn rates and efficiencies are different.
Honestly, if you are not fouling plugs and your engine is running well and you have crisp throttle response, I don't think you have an issue. If you dont have water in your gasoline (you'd know this by the engine running condition) and you are getting plenty of oil and are not running too rich a fuel mixture to the engine, why do you think you have a problem? Maybe, depending on the oil you are running, you are burning and oil that is very smokey??
Also, what is excessive to you? Are you sitting on the water idling and choking from a smoke cloud you are sitting in, or are we just talking about a little smoke? If the engine is running excessively oil rich, it will most likely load up at idle if it idles for a while and then when you mash it, you will get some bogging and a little loss of your crisp throttle response until you clear it out.......it is possible that your oil pump cable has failed.....I believe if they do this, they are spring loaded to default to WIDE OPEN oil such that the engine will not be oil starved. Just a thought, I dont even know if you have a real issue.
It is definitely excessive smoke from too much oil, only at idle it seems. My neighbor thanked me for fogging his yard for mosquitos the last time I idled by.
I have the stock engine which I believe is a 787 cc
I am using Valveoline 2-stroke marine oil that I purchased from a bout shop nearby. Maybe I'll try some of the Sea doo oil and see if that helps.
I'd def. check the cable if that was the case.....might be stuck wide open.....also, I'd look into how that oil burns as I am not sure about it. I have ALWAYS used the seadoo oil (xps synthetic) but been told by SBT that you can use any QUALITY 2-stroke formulated oil and have NO issues, other than some smoke more than others....so look into that as well.
Its far better to burn too much than not enough though.....but excessive will foul plugs.....has that happened yet? Does it idle smoothly and just burn a lot of oil smoke or does it choke up and you have to throttle it up if she idles for too long to clear it out?
Your cable doesn't necessrily have to stick wide open. I've had pumps wear out internally and stick occsaionally halfway. The first way you notice tho is high oil consumption.
It actually idles pretty good, slight hesitation when I throttle up and then makes good power. Havent pulled the plugs out in awhile, I'll do that when I look at how that cable is working. Thanks for all the tips guys.

im not trying to steer you towards anything but if you get a minute take a look at this post. the oil pumps are basicly the same and there are a smit ton of people that have this problem on their sleds including me on 2 of them. ive always wonderd why brp jet skis didnt have the same problem and now that i think about it maybe they do but its harder to calculate milage on 1 take of oil in a ski than it is in a snowmobile.
