Dribbling Leak (in Exhaust--?) when anchored

Just replaced balky starter in 1996 Challenger, and ran it yesterday.

I anchored up and fished a few spots, and could hear a steady dribbling sound--
similar to when you first shut down the engine, but this continued as long as
I was anchored up--thirty or forty five minutes.

The water level in bilge did not seem to rise. The leak sound had a bit
of metallic overtone to it, as if it was inside the muffer/waterbox assembly.

I've had this boat since 2007, and don't run it too often, but this leak
is new. I'm used to hearing it after engine shut-down, but only for
a minute or two...thoughts on what to check?

THe engine and exhaust should be above the waterline so you are just going to have to get down there and find it.

THe engine and exhaust should be above the waterline...

Yep...that's what had me stumped!

I'll check around the exhaust thru-hull.

Is there anything in the muffler (not sure of nomenclature
--the last can, before the thru-hull fitting) that acts like a
scupper--lets exhaust out/shuts against water intrusion,
when engine's off?
