Does my carbon seal look cooked?

Hi all, just getting into this new to me (and first ever) ski. ‘97 gts. Isn’t the boot supposed to be flush with the seal? Or is my boot just not up all the way

Also, to me it looks like the driveshafts isn’t perfectly aligned... would that mean a bigger gap on one side of the wear ring than the other ?

The steel 'hat' looks crooked (bigger gap with ring on left side in pic, and crooked on drive shaft), but so does
the boot (cocked the opposite way).

Did you just do some work, with drive shaft removed?

I got the ski a few days ago, I haven’t touched it, and frankly I have no idea what I’m looking at

It does look off, but I’m thinking it may just be the boot... Loosen the clamps up and see if you can get the boot on straight...

Is there supposed to be this much play in it? I can see a gap in almost every direction, lifting it up and down, side to side. Can also push it backwards on the shaft

Also, the boot appears to be rock solid and formed in that position, I assume whoever replaced it last did a botch job? Seems evident

Is it leaking in the water? If not, why mess with it? A couple pumps of grease into the grease fitting might be called for, but otherwise I’d say leave it alone.

I haven’t ridden it in the water yet, but I noticed after the previous owner rode it for me I saw splash marks around the area. With it being that loose I couldnt imagine it wouldn’t leak. It’s like it would be fine if there was more pressure against it

So, simple test....close the drain plug(s), fill the hull with some water and see if it drips out around the driveshaft tunnel area near the seal

Will do that sometime this week, good idea. but do you think it’s possible it got reinstalled without that c ring? Covered the ski up for the night but now that is on my mind

Comparing my picture to others online, it looks like my drive shaft support ring is not pulled back and locked in with the clip, is this possible? Just an idea

It looks normal and fine to me.

The only thing that looks off is the PTO boot looks like it’s too far to the rear. It should be closer to the grease zerk.
