Guys I was running my GTI 720 on the hose earlier and didn’t realize my hose connection wasn’t attached properly. Needless to say the overheat alarm sounded and I shut it down let it cool for 15mins or so and it started back up and ran fine with the hose connected but I noticed what seemed like a pretty good oil sheen in the exhaust water running on the concrete.
Is it possible I cracked the head that fast?

Nope,,,when they don't get cooling,,a piston will seize,,,yup happened to us racing back in the great tour racing days,,actually, it was a partial seizure..720's are known for the crank oil seals to go,,,that is my guess because the carburation suddenly can't go super rich,,,also,,check your plugs,,,see if they are black wet,,,or nice light brown,,,which i doubt

Man I hope the crank seals aren’t gone already because I just put this engine in this past spring.

It’s an SBT engine.
Which since you mentioned it I think maybe the problem isthey just did a top end rebuild and called it good.
Hopefully not but I’ve since read some not so good reviews on them since I got my engine.
