Hi everyone. Was looking for some advice.

I took my ski for the 1st run of the season and she suddenly conked out after 5 minutes. Admittedly in my rush to enjoy her I completely forgot to warm her up before opening up the throttle. Tried to start her again and it's making a clanking noise when turning over. I fear I blew the top end or worse.

Any suggestions on next steps or good shops in the North NJ area would be a HUGE help!

Cheers,
Alex

Take a video of what is happening and post it here... the easiest way to get access to see the condition of the pistons and rings is to pull the rave housings.

Couldn't get a gauge in time before I needed to leave the SeaDoo for a bit, So I took the head off.

One of the cyclinders definitely looks like there's issues. Do the photos tell anyone anything this is a bit over my experience level.

That cylinder detonated. You'll need to do a top end kit. Hone the cylinder, and then measure the bore. If it's within spec (.004-.005" piston side clearance) you can do a stock piston kit. If it's out of spec or the scratches didn't come out with the hone you need to bore it 1 size (or more) over.

How many hours on the ski? A high hour 951 crankshaft will not usually survive a new top end.

Thanks guys! That's what I figured. Not sure on the hours but relatively low for the year. But will likely rebuild top and bottom if I put the money in to her. Cheers.

And when you buy all the new parts, rebuild the carbs too.

If your at 150+ hours on the ski you should do all or nothing to the engine. If you go all in you'll have a great ski for years to come. If you don't want to go all in, sell it now.
