I have a 1987 Challenger 1800 with the dual 787 engines. Both engines have been recently rebuilt as well as the jets. Boat has ran fine the last few times she has been run.

Today while on the lake the boat was running fine, I increased the speed to 6500 RPM's and in an instant both engines shut down and the gauges were frozen in the place they were when the engines were running. Both tachs were reading 6500 RPM and the speedometer was reading the speed at the instant both engines died.

There is current as the bulge pump works but nothing changed the guages or the ability to restart the motors. When pressing the start buttons no reaction.

Any ideas as to what would cause this situation. The baffling part is the frozen guages???

I dont know what the problem is but cant be internal if they both quit at the exact same time. Im leaning toward something eletrical.

I would lean toward DESS post, :agree: for both motor's to stop like that, it has to be electrical.
when i dont have my DESS key on the post my gauges will slowly climb just from the current built up in the system, if i press a start button all gauges return to bottom and start climbing slowly again. I would say that you lost the contact on the DESS post and your gauges still had current in them that can't dissappate until you push the start button.
Did it start again later and were you getting the 2 beeps to say you had a good connection?

It never made a sound, as she sits on the trailer today all gauges showing still 6500 RPM and 50 MPH. No change. Sad day, I had a company picnic for our employees yesterday and my younger employees were geared up for an afternoon of "who can hang on the longest" with towables. One of my management staff had his boat on the lake so at least they got a change to have fun. But how can you compare a ride on a towable behind a 4Cyl Bayliner to a twin jet Challenger?? So sad!!
