Carb base gasket

I did not see anything mentioned of it in the carb rebuild thread however I do remember seeing a post by Mikidymic in a thread referencing a carburetor that he rebuilt several times And mentioned that he used 1211 and eventually bought a new carb. So I didn’t know if this was just extreme circumstances or routine? Thank you for your response

I put carb to intake manifold gasket on dry, a little Loctite 518 aneorobic on the spark arrestor base to carb interface, both per the manual for my 04 GTI with the 720.

I like a very light coat of 1211 just to hold them in place and ensure a good seal. It also makes removal in the future easier. Especially if you are using the thinner, harder cheap aftermarket gaskets.

Thank you for your input, I think I will be using some 1211. However I’m not quite sure I understand how it makes removal easier? Thanks
JIM

The sealant not only seals the parts but it stops the gasket from coming apart and making a mess when removing.
Some old timers put grease on the gaskets for the same reason but I prefer and actual sealant.
