Hello everyone I'm new to this forum I have been searching my problem but have not found a solution. I have a 04 4-tec sportster replaced the moter with one with 26 hrs. Boat starts runs great til 5000 rpm's will not rev over 5000 in the water on the trailer it rev's to redline. it's not giving a check engine light. I cleaned the fuel filter. Oh by the way some times at WOT it will shoot rpm's to 7800 for a second or two then drop back down like it's possest. Taking it to the dealer to put it on BUDS but afraid since there is no check engine light that it is not throwing a code

this DEFINATlEY sounds like the prob i had...solution....theres a small internal filter in the carb...right where the fuel intake line comes in..clean it w/ carb cleaner or ethyr and u should be all good!

thanks, mine is fuel injected. I have been looking for an aditional fuel filters the mechanic is checking the rail pressure it seams like a fuel issue to me but can't chase it down.

Ooops lol. Sorry. Then i got nothing...but like i said b4 my boat did the exact same thing so its gotta be some sort fuel starvation issue.

is it supercharged or standard?
could be your injectors take them out and clean them?
if it is supercharged it could be a boost problem check your hoses!
also there is a fuel pump problem on this model check your psi on the fuel line!

Thanks everyone! My little boat is not supercharged. The dealer put it on the BUDS and it is not throwing any codes I may not have been real clear on my first post. I purchased a motor with 26 hrs on it to put in this boat I think the new motor is a 05 the old one was a 04 I don't know why it will run like a champ on the trailer but under a load it will only run 7800 rpm's for a couple of seconds. then back down to 5000 seems to me if it were a compatibilty issue it would never run right...It's driving me crazy I wish I had a spare ecm for a one year newer motor

Its either a calibration Error. Or a timing issue. Sounds like the injectors are getting mixed signals. Just my .02

Does anyone no If the cals are differnt from 04 to 05?
