Can the mpem lose memory?

Hello, I have a 1996 sea doo gsx that won't start. Last year I had to get a new key and I got it from a guy on here and I shipped my mpem to him and he programmed it for me. I got it back and the ski started up no problem.
Now, I had just tried to start it and when I connect the key I get nothing. No beeps or anything... I also get a temp sensor problem...
The battery has been out of the machine since the beginning of last year, so that's why I'm wondering if the mpem could have maybe lost its memory and now it doesn't recognize the new key?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Wrong key would be one long beep. Did you put the small black wire back on the negative side of the battery?

Yes, there are two wires for the negative side and one on the positive side.
Is that supposed to be different?

No that's right.

Hit your start/stop button with the lanyard off to make sure the gauges wake up. After the 33 seconds you can put your key on it and see if the gauges jump. Sometimes the beeper is just out.

When I hit the button the gauges turn on, and it does the same thing with the key on or off...

I'm not sure if the post might be bad either? Read that they are a problem area as well...

Likely the post or corrosion on the wire contacts or the magnet in the key is no good.

You can measure the resistance across the post wires and put the key on to see if there is a difference with it on or off.
It should go to 0 ohms between the two wires (black and black yellow.) The other wire is for the chip in the key.

The way it works is that the magnet in the key closes a magnetic reed switch in the post and that makes the connection between the two.
When the connection is made, the mpem wakes up and looks for a key.

That other wire connects to the center post on the post and the black wire connects to the ring on the post.

If his gauges wake up when the key is put on then the key and post are doing their thing. The beeper is out. Since it won't start I'd test the stater solenoid(relay).

The gauges do not wake up when I put the key on... only when I push the on off button do the gauges turn on.

Also, sometimes when I press the on off button a bunch of times it does beep, but maybe only once or twice.

That's normal. The button part. What your doing is going into diagnostic mode when you press it 5 times in a row.

The fact that the key does not turn the gauges on means you have a post issue.

Test it for continuity and you'll know fore sure.

So I test the post and that tested good. The key I think might have gone bad?
So I haven't used my ski in a couple years. I ran it once last year when I got my replacement key and it ran fine. I tried starting it this year and I got this problem.
