Boat Cleaning

Whaterer you do.....don't wax the bottom of the hull.
It will slow the boat down. I wax the top and the sides of mine tho.

Hey Man - What is the theory behind a waxed bottom slowing things down?
I buffed my speedster last night and was wondering about hitting the bottom.

Thanks for the info?

Like when you wax your car the water sheets up. wax on the bottom of the boat will cause the water to sheet up too. Water to water contact (the sheeting) causes a drag. When I worked on race boat hulls we would actually rough up a boat bottom with either a primer or a very light sanding. That causes an air cushion to form thus making the boat ride on air bubbles making it faster. Hope this explains it better.
