Had one of our 95 gtx's out today (not dess). ran great then all of the sudden dead, died mid throttle. Does nothing no clicks or anything. Got it back and found the battery had low voltage 10.5v. thought ok maybe bad battery so put another fully charged in and still nothing. Pulled electrical box and found the 5 amp fuse blown. Replaced it and blew immediately.

So what could be wrong?

On my 96xp 787.....same issue fuse would blow instantly when power was, applied, turned out to be the CDI....I understand a bad mpem can also cause that.

I got the same ski. I would look in the shop manual, electrical diagram, and see what the 5 amp fuse is wired to. If that looks good, then I'm with Legacy37 being it could be a bad mpem.

Not sure if it is the same mpem but be prepared with lube if it is the same as my xp. I think the stator can also cause voltage issues, you can test that at the the pins on the cover

Tested stator it was fine. Replaced the rectifier it didn't help. Replaced the mpem with an aftermarket and it fires right up now. Only problem is, when I connect the battery the starter jumps, just enough to make a clunk noise, not sure what that is about. Hoping it won't drain the battery or cause another issue? Why would the mpem give momentary voltage to the starter without pressing the button?

I was told my folks here those aftermarket mpems aren’t very good. That was why I had to locate a oem one for my xp. Have you ooened your aft electrical box To check for water intrusion?
