New Speedster 200 owner here with a few questions:

I frequently hear the bilge pump running, but it does not seem to do anything to remove water form the boat. (I have never seen any coming out any holes, but I don't know which) holes I should expect it to come out. When the boat sits out in the rain I can deal with flooding by keeping the plug removed from the rear by the jet nozzles. When I'm out on the lake, however, the water tends to build up in the bilge.

Could the pump be clogged by fiberglass shards? Should the water be coming out of the holes on the side of the boat

How much water normally accumulates in your boat during a day on the lake? (I'm seeing maybe 30 gallons, 6 inches in the floor compartment when the boat is level, which gets quite hot by the time I pull the boat out of the water and take out the drain plug.)

Is my boat leaking somewhere, or is the water intake just cause by high speed turns causing water to splash down the air intakes on the side of the boat? (I've been using a barefoot boom and noticed that there is quite a lot of spray next to the boat even when you;re going straight.)

Thanks!

Paul

hey paul...might be clogged, also heard that water can backflow thru the openings and drain thru the bilge into compartment...as far as leak'n, my experience, water just gets in....

yah...:agree:with that, missed the 30gal quote. See if you can squish the accordian boot more, loos'n up clamp from thru-hull, and push toward motor..

Your bilge pump should be pushing that water out. With the boat out of water try just putting some water in the bilge with a hose, enough to completely submerge the bilge pump. With your lanyard in place the pump should turn on.

If it doesn't turn on the manual bypass (if you've got one). Look around for the bilge pump outlet, should be a steady stream of water "peeing" out of it. (I think it dumps to the side, not the back. Make sure there isn't a cover over the bilge outlet stub, it may be threaded to allow connecting a hose, but it shouldn't be blocked)

If not, pull the pump out and check it. When it is upright it should be pulling water from the bottom. If it is clogged it will be obvious Drop it in a bucket of water, see if anything comes out, try running it without the hose on it.

Its okay if the boat leaks a little when under power, and its also okay if you get lots of water in from splashing, but the bilge pump's gotta work. 30 gallons of water isn't a problem all spread out in there (except for making the boat much heavier), but its bad if it floods the engines when you launch hard...
